I moved away from my parents' home before I turned 18 years old. Whenever I would go back to visit, my mom would tell me "All our important papers are in that file cabinet." I would nod but I never walked over to that file cabinet and opened the drawer to see what she thought was important. That file cabinet represented an event that I did not want to face; that my mom would no longer be able to handle her affairs.
I also never asked her any questions, such as "Where are your bank accounts? Do you have any investment accounts? Life insurance? A safety deposit box? Are your estate documents current? What are your wishes for your funeral?" It felt awkward, like I was excitedly anticipating her impending demise. However, death is inevitable and denying its existence will not stop it from occurring. Sometimes, before death occurs, there may be a period of incapacitation....
Today is America’s 241st birthday! It is time to celebrate the most successful nation in history and be thankful for the blessings of freedom and liberty. This is also a good time to reflect on the qualities of our Founding Fathers. Most people would call them determined, courageous and patriotic, but they had another very important quality: they were willing to try something new, to break the mold of old thinking. This is also a similar philosophy for FindingAssistedLiving.com and OurSeniors.net, which, as the result of the merger, they celebrate their first year and announce the launch of OurSeniors.net Magazine for Volusia and Flagler counties.
OurSeniors.net is now completing its transition from the old persona of “Finding Assisted Living” and FindingAssistedLiving.com. OurSeniors.net will become a resource directory available both on-line and as a full-sized, printed magazine published quarterly and distributed free. OurSeniors.net is the resource directory you can depend on for accurate, timely and unbiased information and guidance. This resource is...

Finding Assisted Living and FindingAssistedLiving.com exist to help people make a successful transition to the type of senior lifestyle they want. This transition often involves decisions about their home or other property. Should the senior decide to relocate to a retirement community or assisted living facility? Perhaps remaining in their current home is a better choice. Only the individual involved can decide what is best.
Either situation may involve home maintenance or updates. Realtors know that a property that is well kept and maintained is much easier to sell. The senior who wants to remain in their own home instead of choosing an alternative senior living option should be equally concerned about the upkeep of the property.
