It’s time to have that difficult conversation with your older parents

It’s time to have that difficult conversation with your older parents

| Written by Laurie Taylor | I moved away from my parents' home before I turned 18 years old. Whenever I would go back to visit, my mom would tell me "All our important papers are in that file cabinet." I would nod but I never walked over to that file cabinet and opened the drawer to see what she thought was important. That file cabinet represented an event that I did not want to face; that my mom would no longer be able to handle her affairs. I also never asked her any questions, such as "Where are your bank accounts? Do you have any investment accounts? Life insurance? A safety deposit box? Are your estate documents current? What are your wishes for your funeral?" It felt awkward, like I was excitedly anticipating her impending demise. However, death is inevitable and denying its existence will not stop it from occurring. Sometimes, before death occurs, there may be a period of incapacitation....

OurSeniors.net completed merger with Finding Assisted Living and FindingAssistedLiving.com

OurSeniors.net has now completed its merger with Finding Assisted Living and FindingAssistedLiving.com. The new organization, OurSeniors.net, will retain all the talents and interests that came from Finding Assisted Living, but with a very much expanded focus. OurSeniors.net will continue Finding Assisted Living’s core mission of making the transition into senior life a safe, secure and satisfying experience. In addition, OurSeniors.net will also explore the opportunities and adventures that may come with that senior life transition. These opportunities make up the ‘Sunny Side for Seniors,’ the chance to pursue new interests, to volunteer time and talent, to travel, learn and even to start new enterprises. The new organization will also publish a printed version of its content, OurSeniors.net Magazine. Starting October 1, 2017, OurSeniors.net Magazine will be printed and distributed free of charge to locations throughout the Flagler and Volusia counties area. Like its web-based sibling, OurSeniors.net Magazine will be a comprehensive directory of resources and opportunities aimed at meeting the needs...

OurSeniors.net focuses on the ‘Senior Sunny Side’ and the challenges

OurSeniors.net is the child of two distinguished parents, Finding Assisted Living and FindingAssistedLiving.com. This means that OurSeniors.net will be covering topics like education, travel, volunteer opportunities and even new career opportunities for retired seniors. OurSeniors.net and its printed version, OurSeniors.net Magazine, will be a complete all-things-senior resource directory for you, ‘Our Seniors.’ This does not mean that OurSeniors.net is forgetting the core missions that are still its foundation. Happy Birthday to America and OurSeniors.net

Today is America’s 241st birthday! It is time to celebrate the most successful nation in history and be thankful for the blessings of freedom and liberty.  This is also a good time to reflect on the qualities of our Founding Fathers. Most people would call them determined, courageous and patriotic, but they had another very important quality: they were willing to try something new, to break the mold of old thinking. This is also a similar philosophy for FindingAssistedLiving.com and OurSeniors.net, which, as the result of the merger, they celebrate their first year and announce the launch of OurSeniors.net Magazine for Volusia and Flagler counties. OurSeniors.net is now completing its transition from the old persona of “Finding Assisted Living” and FindingAssistedLiving.com. OurSeniors.net will become a resource directory available both on-line and as a full-sized, printed magazine published quarterly and distributed free. OurSeniors.net is the resource directory you can depend on for accurate, timely and unbiased information and guidance. This resource is...
