It’s never too late to give back

We all have causes that we feel passionate about. Whether it’s animal welfare, food security, helping the homeless or fighting inequality, there are many issues that need to be addressed. By sitting at home and simply posting on Facebook about it or encouraging our loved ones to think about it, we aren’t helping society by simply talking. It’s important to match the conversation with action. With COVID-19 exacerbating many of these problems, now is more important than ever to lend a helping hand to those in need. Together, we can all use our unique talents and resources to help those less fortunate and make the world a better place.
If you’ve ever helped a cause before, you know about the sense of reward that comes with it. There is nothing like the feeling of helping others. It gives us a sense of pride, gratitude and purpose. As humans, we crave the feeling of being wanted and needed. Thankfully, nonprofit organizations need us and our time to carry out their mission. Whether you want to provide your time and engage with others in person or you want to donate items or funds to help, there are many ways to give back. The first thing you need to do is find the right place.
There are so many organizations and causes to choose from that need our help, but which is the most impactful? What can we provide that will go the furthest for the community? First, we recommend writing down a few of your passions that you feel strongly about. Circle the ones that make you empowered to help and spend time on. Then, identify the top three ways you can best help others. If you are an active member of your community, it’s possible you can start your own food drive or clothing drive. If you enjoy creating events, this can be your time to put on a fundraiser. Think about your unique talents and how they can be put to good use.
Once you’ve identified how you want to help, you should start your search for nonprofit organizations that can use your help. You can start by looking at the OurSeniors.net Magazine roster of nonprofit organizations that are based in Florida. Salvation Army is working to help families in need this summer by providing necessities with the help of donations. Lion’s Club of Central Florida is providing complimentary clear face masks to those family members, friends and caretakers who assist the hearing impaired. You can help by donating to these causes or volunteering for them. They are always in need of extra help, especially now.
When it comes to volunteering, there is no such thing as doing too little. Any help you can provide is welcome. The best part is, you determine when and how you want to help. Most opportunities fit your schedule and interests. All you need to do is get up and get started.
OurSeniors.net Magazine works with many organizations that are worth spending time on. Nonprofit organizations like Lion’s Club, Salvation Army, Legacy Housing, and others always need volunteers or people to put on fundraisers to keep their mission going.
