Holiday Drinking and Driving

drinking & driving

drinking & drivingThe holidays are a colorful season brimming with laughter, joy, and plenty of spirits. Alcoholic drinks like eggnog or ciders are as traditional as lighting a Christmas tree! But did you know that for the past five years, between the week of Christmas and New Year’s Day, about 300 people have lost their lives yearly in crashes involving a drunk driver? According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, in 2016 more than 780 people died in December, from drunk-driving-related accidents. The National Institute on Aging reported that the risk is higher for adults age 55 and up even without alcohol. This season let us all do our part by celebrating responsibly. Drinking even small amounts of alcohol can impair a person’s coordination and reaction time. If you are planning on attending holiday parties, avoid alcohol or moderate how much you drink. Designate a sober driver or take a cab home. Whatever you do, do not drink and drive! Our team at OurSeniors.net wishes you and your loved ones a safe and happy holiday.
