The holiday blues or seasonal affective disorder affects about 14% of Americans, according to a paper published by the US National Library of Medicine. These feelings of sadness are incredibly challenging during the holiday season, which comes coupled with social pressures. These holiday blues are especially detrimental to seniors who are isolated or who suffer from chronic illnesses. Symptoms of seasonal depression: Trouble concentrating Constant rumination Loss of interest in activities Sleepier than usual The holiday blues can severely diminish the quality of life of seniors.
